MENOMONIE, Wis. (November 5, 2011) - UW-Platteville broke open a 21-3 lead in the first quarter and Stout was unable to mount a comeback, as they fell to the Pioneers, 27-17, Saturday afternoon at Don and Nona Williams Stadium.

Platteville (6-3, 4-2 WIAC) got three first quarter scores from Nick Anderson.  First, on a third-and-goal from Stout's 13, Anderson threaded the needle and shoved a pass between multiple Stout (5-4, 3-3) defenders to get the first points of the game.  Later, Anderson hit Paul Reit on a fade route for a 20-yard touchdown.  Finally, the quarterback called his own number near the end of the quarter when he ran one in from five yards out.

The Blue Devils started to mount a comeback in the second quarter.  After a 14-yard Trevor Morning run and a 15-yard personal foul penalty against Platteville, #Eric Brown# (Jr, St. Paul, Minn.) took the ball the rest of the way, scoring Stout's first touchdown, a 28 yard scamper.

#Aaron Kobes# (Sr, Two Rivers) recovered the ensuing onside kick, and Stout started their drive in good position with all the momentum.  On the second play of the drive, however, a trick play turned bad when #Dusty Parker# (Jr, Little Falls, Minn.) was picked off by Jaylan Bailey.

Stout mounted a long, slow drive starting with 11:06 left in the third.  The drive featured 12 runs out of 15 plays, covering 65 yards in eight minutes.  However, a missed field goal ended Stout's red zone posession without points.

Later in the third quarter, #Damian Guggenbuehl# (So, La Crosse) intercepted backup quarterback John Kelly, returning the ball to Platteville's 11 yard line.  Four Brown rush attempts later, the running back got his second score of the game, marking the second consecutive week he found the end zone twice.

After the Pioneers added another touchdown and missed the extra point, they held a 10 point lead with nearly a full quarter to play.  What was seemingly Stout's last ditch effort was coming together until Bailey recorded his second interception of the game, when he picked off #Ross Carey# (Sr, Little Suamico) in the end zone to force a touchback and essentially seal the deal.

Brown was the offensive standout for the Blue Devils, carrying the ball 20 times from 105 yards to complement his two scores.  Carey completed 11 of 23 attempts for 128 yards. #Ryan Howg# (Jr, Otsego, Minn.) saw his first action of the season, hitting a 34-yarder with the wind and missing a 32 yarder into the stiff breeze.

Stout celebrated their Senior Day and their Hall of Fame inductions before and during the game.  Stout will close out their regular season next Saturday when they travel to UW-Oshkosh.
