MENOMONIE (October 29, 2011) - UW-Eau Claire bookended a pair of UW-Stout goals and gave the Blue Devils their first loss of the season, a 3-2 set-back at the Dunn County Ice Arena, Saturday.
The Blugolds (1-1-0, 1-1-0 NCHA, 1-1-0 WIAC) opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the first period. Travis Peckskamp scored at the 8:49 mark, then four minutes later, on the power play, Tyler Jundt doubled to score for a 2-0 Eau Claire lead.
The Blue Devils (3-1-0, 1-1-0. 1-1-0) continued to have dropble finding the back of the net, but finally broke through with three minutes left in the third period when
Logan Maly (Jr, Rio), with assists by
Chris Stafne (So, Duluth, Minn) and
Luke Dillon (Fr, Thief River Falls, Minn), scored the power play goal.
Stout knotted the score about two minutes into the third period when
Zach Vierling (Fr, Coon Rapids, Minn) scored his first collegiate goal. He was assisted by
Garrett Grimstad (Jr, Rochester, Minn) and
Jason Cohen (Jr, Anchorage, Alaska).
But Eau Claire's leading scorer from a year ago - Jordan Singer - gave the Blugolds the lead at the 14:42 mark in the third period when he slipped the puck past Stout goalie
Tom Lescovich (Jr, Clifton Park, NY).
Lescovich finished the night with 32 saves, while Eau Claire's Andrew Martin had 21 saves.
Stout will host Concordia-Moorhead, Friday, Nov. 4, and St. John's University, Saturday, Nov. 5. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
