Box Score UW-Stout 5, UW-Eau Claire 2
MENOMONIE (October 28, 2011) - Even penalties couldn't stop UW-Stout as the Blue Devils rolled over UW-Eau Claire, 5-2, in the conference opener Friday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
The first two penalties Stout (3-0-0, 1-0-0 NCHA, 1-0-0 WIAC) drew, the Blue Devils turned into shorthanded goals in the first period.
Garrett Grimstad (Jr, Rochester, Minn) scored shorthanded just short of three minutes into the game, getting an assist from Kevin O'Donnell (So, Rio), his first of three assists on the night.
Eight minutes later, the Blue Devils'
Dan Cecka (So, Woodbury, Minn) doubled the score with a shorty with assists by Grimstad and
Charles Lachance (Jr, Quebec City, Quebec).
Stout then turned the tables with a power play goal with five minutes left in the period by
Joe Beaudette (Jr, Blaine, Minn).
Lachance scored a couple minutes into the second period and
Branden Gay (Sr, Calgary, Alberta) made it 5-0 midway through the period.
The Blugolds (0-1-0, 0-1-0, 0-1-0) picked up their only goals of the game in the third period, with Erick Mclintock scoring twice in the period on the power play.
The teams will meet again Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
