Blue Devils find the net in second period

MENOMONIE (October 22, 2011) - After a scoreless first period, UW-Stout exploded for four second period goals and went on to a 6-2 win over Marian University Saturday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

Stout (2-0-0) wasted no time in getting on board in the second period with Branden Gay (Sr, Calgary, Alberta) opening the floodgates with a goal 13 seconds into the period.

Dan Cecka (So, Woodbury, Minn) scored five minutes later. Kevin O'Donnell (So, Stoughton) scored his first of two goals on the night, scoring with two minutes left in the period. Joe Beaudette (Jr, Blaine, Minn) scored his first goal of the season with less than a minute remaining in the stanza with Stout's only power play goal of the night.

Marian (1-1-0) broke up the shutout eight minutes into the third period on a Bryce Wilson power play goal.

Stout answered that back at 13:52 with O'Donnell's second goal, this one unassisted, and 35 seconds later Charles Lachance (Jr, Quebec City, Quebec) found the back of the net.

The Sabres got a final goal, a power play goal, but Tanner Burton at with just over three minutes left in the game.

O'Donnell, Cecka and Logan Maly (So, Rio) each added three assists.

Shots were relatively even, with Stout holding a 35-33 advantage. Tom Lescovich (Jr, Clifton Park, NY) recorded 31 saves. The Sabres' Josh Baker took the loss, working the first two periods for 22 saves. Randy Wilson came on in the third period and recorded seven saves.

Stout will open conference play next weekend when they host UW-Eau Claire, Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29.
