Werwie picks up pair of wins at No. 1 singles

St. Norbert 7, UW-Stout 2 | Edgewood College 5, UW-Stout 4

MADISON (October 2, 2011) - Abby Werwie (Jr, Kenosha) won both of her matches at No. 1 singles to lead UW-Stout in a triangular at Edgewood College Sunday.

The Blue Devils opened the day with a 7-2 loss to St. Norbert College, then were edged by host Edgewood, 5-4.

Werwie defeated St. Norbert's Kelly Van Handel, 6-3, 6-2, then came back after dropping the first set to defeat Edgewood College's Shae Beckwith, 4-6, 6-3. 10-2.

Werwie teamed with Katie Sorensen (Jr, Neenah) at No. 1 singles to defeat St. Norbert's Van Handel and Nancy Chybowski, 8-4. Sorensen and Werwie were edged in their doubles match to Edgewood's  Beckwith and Laura Olsen, 8-6.

Against Edgewood, Stout got wins from Sammie Swanson (So, Eau Claire) with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kristen Boone at No. 5 singles and Elizabeth Lehnertz (So, Cary, Ill) defeated Kristal Kryshak, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.

Michelle Counsell (So, Elkhorn) and Callie Mikolajczyk (So, Caledonia) defeated Kryshak and Jessica Cihlar at No. 3 doubles, 8-1.

The Blue Devils are off until Saturday, Oct. 15 when they host UW-La Crosse in their final dual match of the season.
