Stout comes off break with win over Augsburg

MENOMONIE (January 7, 2011) - After nearly a month off of competition, UW-Stout came back off Christmas break with a 4-2 win over Augsburg College, Friday, at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

The Blue Devils (9-5-0) came out in the first period with a goal by Logan Maly (Fr, Rio) with four minutes left in the period.

Stout doubled the score when leading scorer Branden Gay (Sr, Calgary, Alberta) scored midway through the second period. The Blue Devils got their second goal of the period when Robert Carr (Sr, Roseau, Minn) batted a high puck into the net with a minute left in the stanza.

The Auggies (7-4-1) got on the board two minutes into the third period when Jon Barrick scored. Augsburg got within 3-2 when Joel Sauer scored at 13:15 of the third.

The Blue Devils got an empty net goal when Garrett Grimstad (So, Rochester, Minn) from beyond the opposite blue line.

Stout's Nick Hopper (So, Culver City, Calif) recorded 34 saves, while Justin Lochner had 32 saves for Augsburg.

Stout will host Gustavus Adolphus, Saturday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
