MENOMONIE (January 10, 2011) - In a wide open game that wasn't sealed until
Dan Cecka (Fr, Woodbury, Minn) scored a late power play goal, UW-Stout prevailed over UW-River Falls, 4-2, Monday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
Stout (11-5-0, 6-4-0 NCHA, 4-2-0 WIAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two quick goals in the first period.
Robert Carr (Sr, Roseau, Minn) opened the scoring four minutes into the game and
Branden Gay (Sr, Calgary, Alberta) followed up with an unassisted goal three minutes later.
The Falcons (6-8-1, 2-6-0, 2-4-0) cut the lead in half when Caleb Wolfgram scored midway through the period and the teams went into the locker room with Stout leading 2-1.
Kevin O'Donnell (Fr, Stoughton) gave Stout a 3-1 lead with two minutes left in the second period.
The Falcons cut the lead to one again, this time getting a shorthanded goal by Josh Calleja four minutes into the third.
The puck went up and down the rink until
Matt Morin (So, Brooklyn Park, Minn) passed to Cecka who was in front of the crease and put the puck past goalkeeper Scott Lewan with just under two minutes left.
Nick Hopper (So, Culver City, Calif) picked up his second win in as many starts, making 29 saves. Lewan finished with 27 saves.
Stout will host UW-Superior, Friday, Jan. 14 and Saturday, Jan. 15.
