Tennis team takes two in Beloit Saturday

UW-Stout 5, Beloit College 4 | UW-Stout 9, Mount Mary 0

BELOIT (September 4, 2010) - A young UW-Stout tennis team opened up their 2010-11 season by sweeping their first two matches of the season, downing Beloit College, 5-4, and Mount Mary College, 9-0, at Beloit College Saturday.

Allie Hinman (Sr, Lino Lakes, Minn) and Abbie Werwie (So, Kenosha) picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, and combined for a win at No. 1 doubles. The pair dispatched Taylor Jones and Emma Beck, 8-0. Individuall, Hinman, Stout's all-time singles wins leader, defeated Alexandra Hinck, 6-2, 6-0. Werwie defeated Julia Win, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.

Samantha Kletscher (Fr, Brainerd, Minn) got her first collegiate win and had to work hard to get the No. 3 singles win. She defeated Taylor Jones, 6-3, 5-7, 11-9, and was the last match on the court. Katie Sorensen (So, Neenah) defeated Lily Rubenstein at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 0-6, 10-4.

Hinman, Werwie and No. 6 singles Callie Mikolajczyk (So, Calenonia) recorded 6-0, 6-0, wins over Mount Mary.

Stout will be at the University of Dubuque, Monday, Sept. 6, to play host Dubuque and St. Ambrose University.
