Hoffman tosses 3-hitter, but Warhawks win twice

UW-Whitewater 1, UW-Stout 0 (10 inn) | UW-Whitewater 12, UW-Stout 0 (5 inn)

WHITEWATER (May 1, 2010) - Kristy Hoffman (Sr, Circle Pines, Minn) tossed a three-hitter, but UW-Whitewater scored in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 1-0 game one win over UW-Stout Saturday. The Warhawks unloaded the heavy lumber in the second game, giving Stout a 12-0, five inning loss.

In game one, Hoffman had a no-hitter going through four innings, a one hitter through six innings and two hitter through nine innings.

The Warhawks' Amanda LeBeau broke up Hoffman's no-hitter bid with a single in the fifth, then slashed the second hit of the game for Whitewater in the seventh inning. And LeBeau proved to be the thorn throughout the day, or at least had a hand in pushing the thorn in.

The lead-off batter in Whitewater's half on the 10th reached on an infield error and moved to second on the error. Following insertion of a pinch runner, LeBeau reached base when Stout went after the lead runner, who was safe at third. Kate McDonnell scored Amanda Mertes from third with a slice down the left field side.

Hoffman recorded four strikeouts and allowed only one walk. Her counterpart, Jessica Stang, also tossed a three-hitter, but recorded nine strikeouts. Jamie Olson (Fr, Eau Claire) recorded two hits and Alison Gray (Fr, St. Cloud, Minn) had the other hit.

In game two, Whitewater racked up eight runs in the fourth inning by sending 12 to the plate in the inning. On the game, Whitewater tallied nine hits off Hoffman, who struck out one, but walked six. Stout was held to three hits by Katie Boyle.

Stout will be at UW-Oshkosh, Sunday, May 2, then will close the regular season by hosting Hamline University, Tuesday, May 4 at 4 p.m.
