MENOMONIE, Wis. (April 8, 2010) - UW-Stout never led in either game and suffered a 4-2 loss, followed by a 17-3 pounding from UW-Superior in their first conference doubleheader, Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Blue Devils (9-13, 0-2 WIAC) out-hit the Yellowjackets (18-2-1, 2-0) in the first game, 8-6.
Morgan Beyer (So, Medford) batted 3-for-4.
Kat Nelson (So, Chippewa Falls) drove in both of Stout's runs on a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
Kristy Hoffman (Sr, Circle Pines, Minn.) pitched all seven innings, and struck out five batters. Superior's Kalli Kucharyski struck out 11 Stout batters in seven innings of work.
In the second game, Superior scored runs in ever innning of the 5-inning contest. Four Yellowjackets hit home runs, all of which came in the first three innings. Down 15-0, Stout got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when
Jamie Olson (Fr, Eau Claire) drove in Nelson on a sacrifice fly, followed by a
Sam Sarna (So, Buffalo, Minn.) double that drove in two.
Hoffman was saddled with the loss, despite not even allowing a hit. She faced just two batters, both of whom she walked.
Stout is off until Wednesday, April 14 when they travel to UW-Eau Claire. Stout will host UW-La Crosse, Saturday, April 17 at 1:30 p.m. and UW-Platteville, Sunday, April 18 at noon.
