MENOMONIE, Wis. (April 22, 2010) - UW-Stout relinquished leads in both games, Thursday afternoon, as they dropped two conference contests to UW-River Falls, at Alumni Field.
Stout took an early 1-0 lead in the first game, but River Falls quickly raced ahead to win, 7-2. In the second game, Stout took a 3-2 lead into the fifth inning before the Falcons answered in the sixth inning and won it, 4-3, in the seventh.
Kat Nelson (So, Chippewa Falls) drove in Stout's (11-19, 2-8 WIAC) first run of the night in the second inning of the first game. The Falcons (18-10, 5-3) got a run in each of the third and the fourth to take a 2-1 lead, but Nelson tied the game up when she singled, and later scored on a
Jamie Olson (Fr, Eau Claire) double.
Three River Falls runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh ended the game.
Kristy Hoffman (Sr, Circle Pines, Minn.) was saddled with the loss as she went the full seven innings with four strikeouts. Rose Tusa picked up the win, allowing two earned runs in six innings.
The Blue Devils got off to a sluggish start in the second game, but a big fourth inning gave them a 3-2 lead.
Alison Gray (Fr, St. Cloud, Minn.) started the inning off with a home run, her team-leading fourth of the year.
Kelly Conway (Jr, La Crescent, Minn.) followed with a double, and Olson walked to get runners on first and second.
Jenna Johnson (Sr, Menomonie) drove in Conway with a single, and Olson scored later on an
Olivia Schroeder (Fr, Eau Claire) sacrifice fly.
With runs in the sixth and seventh innings, the Falcons grabbed a 4-3 lead which Stout could not overcome in the bottom of the seventh.
Hoffman collected her second loss of the evening. She allowed four earned runs and struck out six. Tusa picked up the win again as she pitched the last 3.2 innings of the contest.
Stout will travel to UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, Apr. 24 to play a doubleheader with the Pointers.
