MENOMONIE (April 18, 2010) - Alison Gray (Fr, St. Cloud, Minn) and Olivia Schroeder (Fr, Eau Claire) provided the heroics as UW-Stout swept UW-Platteville in dramatic fashion Sunday at Alumni Field.

Gray hit  a walkoff two-run home run to give Stout (11-17, 2-6 WIAC) a 5-3, 11-inning win over UW-Platteville (9-21, 0-10) in the first game and Schroeder laced a single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Kat Nelson (So, Chippewa Falls) to give Stout a 10-9 second game win.

In the opener, Lacey Joslin (Jr, Sturgeon Lake, Minn) started three separate rallies in the late innings, but it wasn't until the 11th inning that her efforts paid off.

With one out in the 11th, Joslin beat out an infield hit to third base and Gray brought her home with a rocket home run to left field.

Stout took an early lead when Gray scored on Jenna Johnson's (Sr, Menomonie) hit up the middle. The Pioneers knotted the score in the fourth on a solo home run by Nathalie Schattner.

The Blue Devils grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the fourth when Jessica Nicol (Fr, Eau Claire), who had opened the inning with a double on her first hit of the season, scored on an error. A few minutes later, Jamie Olson (Fr, Eau Claire) stole third, then came home on the overthrow and Stout held a 3-1 lead. The Pioneers got both runs back in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Ashley Paradis and a Brittany Caley double.

Stout loaded the bases in the seventh and the ninth, but came up empty both times. The Pioneers' best chance came in the 11th inning when they stranded two.

The Pioneers outhit Stout, 11-10, and Caley was 3-for-5 for game. Joslin was 3-for-6, while Gray and Kelly Conway (Jr, La Crescent, Minn) each had two hits.

Both pitchers went the distance, with Kristy Hoffman (Sr, Circle Pines, Minn) picking up the win, striking out three. Melissa Anderson struck out four and was saddled with the loss.

In the second game of the doubleheader, there was much more offense on both sides.  Stout got off to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after a Sammy Peterson (So, Hudson) double cleared the bases.

Platteville answered back with three of their own in the fourth inning, but Stout was quick to re-capture the lead in the bottom half of the inning.  The Pioneers continued their momentum from fourth, and piled six more runs on in the fifth inning, including two home runs.

Conway got things started off in the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff double, and scored shortly after on a throwing error.  Olson, Schroeder and Joslin each added an RBI in the inning, to draw Stout within one run of the Pioneers.

In the bottom of the seventh, needing a run to extend the game, Johnson and Nelson hit back-to -back doubles to score Johnson, and Schroeder drove in the game-winning run two batters later.

Hoffman pitched all seven innings, and picked up her second win of the day.

Stout will host UW-River Falls, Thursday, April 22 at 4 p.m.
