MENOMONIE, Wis. (April 17, 2010) - UW-La Crosse barely edged Stout, 2-1, in the first game, followed by a 9-0 rout of the Blue Devils in the second, Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Pitcher
Kristy Hoffman (Sr, Circle Pines, Minn.) threw seven strong innings, allowing just two earned runs in the first game, but the offense struggled to produce runs all day long. La Crosse (22-6, 6-0 WIAC) grabbed the a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning and added another in the sixth.
Stout (9-17, 0-6) began to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning, when
Jamie Olson (Fr, Eau Claire) drove in
Kat Nelson (So, Chippewa Falls) with two outs. The Blue Devils, however, were not able to muster up a second run and dropped the game, 2-1.
The latter of the two games was dominated by the Eagles' bats, as they hit for five extra base hits, including two home runs. La Crosse had 15 hits compared to Stout's three. Hoffman collected her second loss of the day, as she left the game in the third inning after allowing four runs.
Stout will play again tomorrow, Apr. 18, when they host UW-Platteville in a doubleheader starting at noon.
