CLERMONT, Fla (March 22, 2010) - UW-Stout lost a pair of games on the their third day at the National Training Center College Spring Games Monday.
Wellesley College (5-2) scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to hand Stout a 9-3 loss in the early game. Then Allegheny College (3-2) squeaked past the Blue Devils (6-7) by a score of 6-5 with three runs in the bottom of the seventh in the noon game.
Stout gave up two runs against Wellesley in the first inning, but came back to tie the game when
Olivia Schroeder (Fr, Eau Claire) drove in a run and
Kat Nelson (So, Chippewa Falls) scored on an error in the fourth inning. Stout took the lead, 3-2, when pinch runner
Lacey Joslin (Jr, Sturgeon Lake, Minn) made her way around the bases on an error in the fifth inning.
Wellesley took the game in the seventh with a lead off double, then took advantage of three errors in the inning to rack up seven runs.
Against Allegheny, Stout took a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first inning on an RBI single by
Alison Gray (Fr, St. Cloud, Minn) and a sacrifice fly by
Jenna Johnson (Sr, Menomonie) and a single run in the second inning when
Sammy Peterson (So, Hudson) drove in Schroeder, who led off the inning with a double.
Allegheny tacked on two runs in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run by pitcher Amanda Downey, then tied the game with one run in the third. The third inning could have been much more damaging as Stout pitcher
Kristy Hoffman (Sr, Circle Pines, Minn) left the bases loaded to close the stanza.
Stout took a 5-3 lead when
Kelly Conway (Jr, LaCrescent, Minn) drove in Joslin and
Sam Sarna (So, Buffalo, Minn) in the sixth.
Allegheny won the contest on three unearned runs on two Stout errors in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Stout is scheduled to play D'Youville College Tuesday, March 23, in a make-up game from Sunday.
