Blue Devils open Florida trip with wins

Offense leads way in first, defense in second game

CLERMONT, Fla (March 20, 2010) - UW-Stout opened their spring break trip to Florida with a pair of wins Saturday, defeating Hope College, 9-4, and the University of Chicago, 2-1, at the National Training Center College Spring Games.

Stout (6-4) pounded Hope for six runs in the fifth inning, then put the game on ice when Jenna Johnson (Sr, Menomonie) launched a three-run home run in the seventh inning.

While the first game was an offensive showcase, the second game hinged around defense as the Stout outfield gunned down two Chicago runners at the plate, including the final play of the game when Olivia Schroeder (Fr, Eau Claire) threw a bullet from right field to catcher Alison Gray (Fr, St. Cloud, Minn) for the final out of the game.

Morgan Beyer (So, Medford) picked up Stout's first run with an RBI single. Sam Sarna (So, Buffalo, Minn) got the game winner in the fifth inning on a triple.

Kristy Hoffman (Sr, Circle Pines, Minn) recorded the wins in both games..

Stout is scheduled to play Middlebury College and D'Youville College, Sunday, March 21.
