Softball team on both ends of 8-0 scores

UW-Stout 8, Northwestern College 0 (5 inn); Northwestern 8, Stout 0 (5 inn)

ROSEMOUNT, Minn (February 26, 2010) - UW-Stout found themselves on both ends of an 8-0 decision, winning the first game over Northwestern College, 8-0, then getting blanked, 8-0, in the second game Friday at the Irish Sports Dome. Both games ended in five innings due to the eight run rule.

Kristy Hoffman (Sr, Circle Pines, Minn) struck out five, walked one, scattered four hits and stranded five in the opener to get the win for the Blue Devils (2-2).

Alison Gray (Fr, St. Cloud, Minn) stayed hot, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and one RBI. Kelly Conway (Jr, La Crescent, Minn) drove in a pair of runs. Jess Grobe (Jr, Millville, Minn) and Sammy Peterson (So, Hudson) were both 2-for-2.

In the second game, Northwestern (1-1) scored six runs in the second inning to blow the game open. Stout managed five hits and only got runners as far as second base. Defensively, Stout committed three errors, all in the second inning.

Olivia Schroeder (Fr, Eau Claire) was 2-for-2 for the Blue Devils. Brianna Rogers had a three-run home run for the Eagles in the second inning.

Stout returns to the Irish Sports Dome, Wednesday, March 3 when they play Augsburg College at 10 a.m.
