Pointers end Stout season in mini-game

MENOMONIE (February 20, 2010) - UW-Stevens Point's Johnny Meo scored 18 seconds into the overtime period of the mini-game to eliminate UW-Stout from the NCHA Peters Cup tournament.

The Pointers came back in the first game to tie the game in the second period, then scored the winning goal two minutes into the overtime period on a shot by Travis Erstad.

Stout opened the scoring in the game when Joel Gaulrapp (Sr, Owatonna, Minn) scored with one second remaining in the first period. The Pointers tied the game midway through the second period on a goal by Harrison Niemann.

In the mini-game, Stevens Point's Jon Madden scored 23 seconds into the game. Stout tied the game at 6:30 when Derek Hanson (Sr, Bemidji, Minn) scored.

Meo scored the winning goal quickly when the puck crossed the line and he slid into the net.

Stevens Point will meet St. Norbert College, Saturday, Feb. 27. St. Scholastica will host UW-River Falls in the other semi-final game.
