UW-Eau Claire 5, UW-Stout 2
EAU CLAIRE (December 4, 2010) - For the second consecutive night, UW-Stout scored all of their goals in the third period and for the second consecutive night the Blue Devils rally fell short as UW-Eau Claire took a 5-2 win at Hobbs Ice Arena Saturday.
The Blugolds built a 5-0 lead before Stout showed signs of scoring life in a game that saw 34 penalties - of which 20 were coincidental - between the two I-94 rivals. Eau Claire scored a single goal in the first period but exploded for four in the second period for a nearly insurmountable lead.
Stout started pecking away at the lead in the final period when Kevin O'Donnell (Fr, Stoughton) scored four minutes in.
David Larson (Sr, Warroad, Minn) added a goal at 12:36, but that would be it for the scoring.
Mike Morgan (Jr, Northfield, Minn) made his first collegiate start in the goal, getting 26 saves, including 15 in the second period. The Blugolds' Brandon Stephenson had 29 saves. Shots on net were even with 31 shots apiece.
Stout return to the Dunn County Ice Arena next weekend to begin a six game home stand. Stout will host UW-River Falls, Friday, Dec. 10 and Saturday, Dec. 11, with both games slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
