MENOMONIE (December 3, 2010) - UW-Stout scored three goals in the third period, but their rally came up short as the Blue Devils dropped an NCHA game, 4-3, to UW-Eau Claire Friday, at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

Trailing 3-0 going into the final period, Stout (7-4-0, 4-3-0 NCHA, 2-1-0 WIAC) got on the board 24 seconds into the third period on a goal by Charles Lachance (So, Quebec City, Quebec). Stout cut the score to 3-2 on a goal by Logan Rounds (Fr, Anchorage, Alaska) with 8:22 on the clock.

But the Blugolds answered to take back a two goal lead when Kurt Weston scored with four minutes left in the game. The Blue Devils gave themselves a chance when Chris Stafne (Fr, Duluth, Minn) scored a minute later to pull Stout to within one goal.

The Blue Devils pulled their goalie to put an extra attacker, but could not pierce the net.

The Blugolds scored first on the power midway through the first perod when Bryan Wilcox, with an assist from Andrew Wilcox at the 8:00 mark, then doubled the score at almost the same time of the second period when Jordan Singer scored an even strength goal at 8:16 in the middle period. Brian Nehring tagged on an unassisted goal at 15:37 of the second.

Tom Lescovich (So, Clifton Park, NY) took the loss with 26 saves. Mike Morgan (Jr, Northfield, Minn) come on in relief in the third period and recorded seven saves. Eau Claire's Brandon Stephenson recorded the win and 25 saves.

The two teams will meet again Saturday, Dec. 4 in Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
