Blue Devils come back for win over Falcons

MENOMONIE (December 10, 2010) - Talk about a slow start, but a fast finish.

UW-Stout did not get a single shot on net in the first period but came back with a three-goal third period for a 4-3 win over UW-River Falls Friday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

Branden Gay (Sr, Calgary, Alberta) scored twice, including the game winner on a 5-on-3 power play opportunity with an assist by David Larson (Sr, Warroad, Minn) with five minutes left on the clock.

Despite a 14-0 shot advantage in the first period, River Falls (5-6-1, 2-5-0 NCHA) did not score, but took the lead seven minutes into the second period on a goal by Ben Beaudoin. The Falcons doubled the score six minutes later on a goal by Alec Hagaman.

Stout (8-5-0, 5-4-0 NCHA) cut the lead in half when Gay scored his first goal on the power play with five minutes left in the second period. The Falcons took a 3-1 lead on a power play goal by Justin Brossman three minutes into the third period.

Stout began to cut into the lead when Jesse Johnston (Sr, Roseau, Minn) scored his first goal of the season six minutes into the third. Sam Carr (So, Roseau, Minn) got the equalizer four minutes later and Gay got the winner with five minutes remaining.

Tom Lescovich (So, Clifton Park, NY) recorded 32 saves, while River Falls' Scott Lewan had 22 saves.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again Saturday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Menomonie.
