MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn (November 6, 2010) -
Charles Lachance scored two third period goals and
Tom Lescovich (So, Clifton Park, NY) made 37 saves in recording his second shutout of the season as UW-Stout defeated the University of St. Thomas, 3-0, Saturday.
After a scoreless first period, the Blue Devils (3-3) got on the board first when Kevin O'Donnell (Fr, Rio) scored on the power play midway through the second period, getting assists from
David Larson (Sr, Warroad, Minn) and
Bobby Kuehl (Sr, St. Paul, Minn).
Lachance scored his first goal as a Blue Devil five minutes into the third period, with assists by
Jesse Johnston (Sr, Roseau, Minn) and
Sam Carr (So, Roseau, Minn). Lachance tacked on his second goal of the period with 14:38 off clock, getting an assist from Carr.
Lescovich turned back 16 shots in the first period and the Blue Devil defense turned down the screws throughout the contest. Lescovich had 13 saves in the second stanza and eight in the third. The Tommies' Geoff Sadjadi had 31 saves.
With the second shutout, Lescovich doubles the number of shutouts he recorded in all of last season. The win marks the second consecutive year the Blue Devils shut out the Tommies (2-2). Lescovich last year made 29 saves in an 8-0 win.
After the first six games on the road, the Blue Devils will make their first home appearance in a weekend series with St. Scholastica, Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13. The puck is scheduled to be dropped both nights at 7:30 p.m.
