UW-Stout 4, St. Mary's 3
WINONA, Minn (November 4, 2010) -
Branden Gay (Sr, Calgary, Alberta) scored two goals, including the eventual game winner, as UW-Stout defeated St. Mary's University, 4-3, at SMU Ice Arena.
Gay scored midway through the second period to put the Blue Devils up 2-1, then added his second goal of the game 13 minutes into the third period to push Stout up, 4-2. The Cardinals added a shorthanded goals with 24 seconds left in the contest.
The Cardinals (0-3-0) opened the scoring 11 minutes into the contest on a goal by Brad Fusaro. Stout (2-3-0) knotted the game six minutes later when
Casey Kirley (Fr, Hayward) scored shorthanded, getting an assist from Gay.
Gay broke the tie at 8:44 in the second period, but the Cardinals' Tommy Healy tied the contest again in the 15th minutes.
Stout's
David Larson (Sr, Warroad, Minn) gave Stout the lead for good with less than two minutes left in the second quarter. Gay gave Stout a two goal lead with his third period power play goal. Mike Schaber scored shorthanded at 19:44 to close out the scoring.
Stout outshot their opponent, 28-22, with
Tom Lescovich (So, Clifton Park, NY) making 19 saves. Andy Scheib had 24 saves for St. Mary's.
Stout will be at St. Thomas, Saturday, Nov. 6, then make their first home game appearance of the season when they host St. Scholastica, Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
