Stout blows past Bethel in season opener

Hostetter scores 23 in Blue Devil victory

MENOMONIE (November 16, 2010) - Eric Hostetter (Sr, Stillwater, Minn.) led all players in points and rebounds as the Blue Devils took their season opener from Bethel, 95-69, Tuesday night at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Hostetter shot 9-16 from the field, including 5-10 from beyond the arc, scoring 23 points, 18 of which came in the first half. 

The teams battled evenly early on in the first half.  Jerrod Buchholtz (Sr, Durand) opened up the scoring by connecting on three straight three-pointers.  Buchholtz finished the game with 20 points. 

Stout (1-0) went on a little 13-5 run midway through the period to take a 10 point lead with eight minutes remaining.  Then with two and a half minutes to go, Stout pulled off a 9-2 run until halftime, taking a 51-31 lead into the locker rooms.

The Blue Devils all but put away Bethel (0-1) midway through the second half when they turned a 20-point lead with 15 minutes to go into a 27-point lead with under eight minutes to play. 

Mahlon Thomas (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) finished the game with nine points and nine rebounds, matching Hostetter for the high rebound total.  In addition to Hostetter and Buchholtz, Steve Pax (Fr, Elmwood) scored in double figures for the Blue Devils, as he contributed 12 points to the mix.

Stout will travel to Crown College this Saturday, Nov. 20.
