UW-Whitewater 30, UW-Stout 7
WHITEWATER (October 9, 2010) - UW-Whitewater scored 23 unanswered points to defeat UW-Stout, 30-7, Saturday in front of a record crowd at Perkins Stadium in Whitewater.
Stout's (3-2, 2-1) only score was by offensive lineman
Tyler Butzler (Jr, Tomah) who fell on a fumble in the end zone in the second quarter.
Whitewater held Stout to 61 rushing yards and 177 passing yards, while piling up 255 yards on the ground and 213 in the air.
The No. 1 ranked Warhawks (5-0, 2-0) got on the board at the 9:40 mark of the second quarter on a two-yard pass from Matt Blanchard to Aaron Rusch.
The Blue Devils answered back in strange fashion when they drove 69 yards 15 plays when Butzler recovered
Ross Carey's (Jr, Little Suamico) fumble into the end zone.
The Warhawks booted a 22 yard field with seven seconds left in the first half, then scored five minutes in the third period when Blanchard connected with Rusch for a 22 yard score. Levell Coppage scored on the 31 yard run to open the fourth period, then added a four-yard dash with eight minutes remaining.
Carey completed 17-of-35 passes for 177 yards, but was sacked three times.
Patrick Mengelkoch (Sr, Champlin, Minn) hauled in six passes for 80 yards.
Blanchard completed 22-of-30 passes for 213 yards with Adam Brandes snagging 10 catches for 119 yards. Rusch had six catches for 53 yards and the two scores. Coppage finished with 163 rushing yards.
Stout will host UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. in the Blue Devils' annual homecoming game.
