Gustavus give hockey team a set back

- Gustavus Adolphus has certainly had UW-Stout's number over the past couple of years and this year was no exception as the Gusties handed the Blue Devils a 4-1 defeat Saturday.

After the Blue Devils (6-7-3) tied the game at 1-1 in the second period. the Gusties (10-4-1) scored three unanswered goals, two in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Gustavus swept Stout last year in two games, a 6-5 win early in the season in Menomonie and a 3-2 overtime win in the NCAA Division III semi-final game.

The Gusties Eric Bigham scored 14 minutes into the game. Stout tied the score early in the second period when Joe Knoepke (Fr, Rochester, MInn) scored on assists by Garret Grimstad (Fr, Rochester, Minn) and Paul Hendrickson (Sr, Menomonie).

David Martinson scored unassisted just before the end of the second period, and Mitch Carlson and Dane Erickson added unassisted goals in the third.

Gustavus outshot Stout, 44-33. Tom Lescovich (Fr, Clifton Park, NY) took the loss with 40 saves. Josh Swartout had 29 saves for Gustavus.

Stout will be at UW-Superior, Friday, Jan. 15 and Saturday, Jan. 16.
