Netters push their way past Dubuque, Calumet College

DUBUQUE, Iowa (September 7, 2009) - UW-Stout trailed the University of Dubuque after doubles competition, but the Blue Devils snagged four of the six singles matches to grab their first dual win of the season, getting past the Spartans, 5-4, on Labor Day. Later in the day, the Blue Devils took their second win of the season, downing Calumet College of St. Joseph, Ind, 5-4.

Allie Hinman (Jr, Lino Lakes, Minn) and Abby Werwie (Fr, Kenosha) were double winners in both matches. Against Dubuque, the duo won easily at No. 1 doubles, winning 8-0. Hinman won at No. 1 singles just as easily, not dropping a set in a 6-0, 6-0, win. Werwie had a little bit harder time, but not by much, winning at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Against Calumet, Hinman and Werwie barely broke a sweat in both doubles and singles. The team won at doubles by an 8-0 score and both won at singles by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, Hinman at No. 1, Werwie at No. 2 singles.

Erin James (Fr, Menomonie) went to 3-0 at No. 3 singles, winning 7-6, 6-0, against Dubuque and 6-0, 6-2, against Calumet.  Stephanie Schick (So, Altoona) won at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1, against Dubuque, then won at No. 4 singles against Calumet, 6-4, 6-3.

Schick and James paired at No. 2 doubles to defeat Calumet, 8-2..
