Stout's season comes to an end at conference tournament

Oshkosh 4, Stout 1 | Stevens Point 4, Stout 3

SUPERIOR  (May 1, 2009) - UW-Stout lost both games on the first day of the WIAC Championships at UW-Superior Friday and saw their season come to an end. The Blue Devils lost, 4-1, to UW-Oshkosh in the tournament opener, then were edged by UW-Stevens Point, 4-3, in their second game.

In the first game, Jenna Johnson (Jr, Menomonie) gave Stout a 1-0 lead with a lead off home run in the second inning, but Oshkosh scored four unanswered runs to send the Blue Devils into the elimination bracket Friday.

The Blue Devils (19-21) were held to three hits in the game and only three base runners after Johnson's home run. Stout stranded two runners in the sixth inning. 

Oshkosh tied the score in the third inning, then scored two runs in the fifth. The Titans, who notched six hits, scored their final run in the sixth inning.

In the second game, Stevens Point scored three runs in the fourth inning to overcome a 2-1 Stout lead.

The Pointers (21-19) took advantage of three Stout errors in the three-run fourth, but only after the Pointers brought out the heavy bats. Stevens Point opened the inning with a home run by Jessica Berger, then Lauren Watkins followed up with a triple. Three of the next five batters reached base on errors. 

Stout did pull to within what would prove to be the final score in the next inning when Nelly Peterson (Sr, Cumberland) drove in a run, but Stout stranded two runners. Neither team got a hit the rest of the way.

Peterson was 2-for-3 with all three runs driven in for Stout against Stevens Point. Peterson was 1-for-3 in the first game as she wrapped up her collegiate career.
