2009 WIAC Softball Tournament
SUPERIOR (April 30, 2009) - UW-Stout will open the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) softball tournament by facing UW-Oshkosh, Friday, May 1 at 10 a.m. at UW-Superior. The tournament will be played at the Liebaert Complex.
Stout (19-19, 7-9 WIAC) is the sixth seeded team, while UW-Oshkosh (19-15, 11-5) is the third seeded team.
The teams met on April 4 in Menomonie, with the Blue Devils winning the first game, 5-4, when Jenna Johnson (Jr, Menomonie) hit a leadoff walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th to end the marathon event. The Titans won the second game, 4-1. The Titans Syd Wyss hit a lead off home run to start things off on the right foot for Oshkosh.
The last time the two teams met in the first round of the tournament was in 2001 when Stout won, 7-6, at Superior. This is the first time Stout has entered the tournament as the sixth seed.
The winner will play the winner of the UW-La Crosse/UW-Stevens Point game at 4 p.m. The loser will play the loser of the same game, but at 2 p.m.
