MENOMONIE  (April 23, 2009) - Nelly Peterson (Sr, Cumberland) collected two runs batted in in each game, scored two runs, including stealing home in the first game, as UW-Stout defeated Carleton College, 4-2, 5-1, Thursday, at Alumni Field.

In the opener, Peterson drove in runs in the third inning and the fifth inning. She stole home later in the fifth inning on a delayed double steal to give Stout a 4-1 lead.

Carleton (4-29) added a single run in the sixth inning, but winning pitcher Kristy Hoffman (Jr, Circle Pines, Minn) stranded two runners when she struck out the third out in the inning. Hoffman struck out seven and walked only one while scattering six hits throughout the game.

The Blue Devils (18-18) nickled-and-dimed their way to a 2-0 lead after the second inning. Kat Nelson (Fr, Chippewa Falls), who stole three bases in the game, stole home in the first. Morgan Beyer's (Fr, Medford) second inning sacrifice fly made the score 2-0.

Peterson hit a two-run single in a three-run third inning. Jenna Johnson (Jr, Menomonie) hit a sacrifice fly in to cap off the Blue Devils' scoring in the inning.

Carleton broke up Laura Vanderhoof's (Fr, Mankato, Minn) shutout bid when Sarah Marks hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Vanderhoof struck out five while pitching a three-hitter. She faced only the minimum through the first three inning.

Nelson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the second game.
