Hamline University sweeps Blue Devils

Hamline 7, Stout 5 | Hamline 3, Stout 0

ST. PAUL, Minn.  (April 13, 2009) - Over the course of the doubleheader, UW-Stout allowed Hamline University to score in only two innings.

Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, both of those innings gave the Pipers enough runs to earn a 7-5, 3-0, sweep over the Blue Devils Monday.

Hamline scored seven runs in the sixth inning of the first game, then scored three runs in the third inning of the second game and made that stand up.

In the opener, Stout's Lisa Reiter (So, Elgin, Minn) stayed hot, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Reiter started off with a one out double in the first, then came home on Jenna Johnson's (Jr, Menomonie) single to right field. Kelly Conway (So, La Crescent, Minn) scored moments later on an error to give Stout a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Devils (12-16) added to the lead with a two-run fourth inning. Laura Vanderhoof (Fr, Mankato, Minn) doubled in a run and Reiter drove in Vanderhoof. Pitcher Kristy Hoffman (Jr, Circle Pines, Minn) drove in what would prove to be Stout's final run of the day in the fifth inning.

The Pipers (17-5) got to Hoffman in the sixth inning and she gave way to Vanderhoof. The Pipers pounded out eight hits and seven runs in the inning, including a grand slam by Heidi Larsen.

Two Stout errors in the third inning of the second game helped lead to Hamline's three runs, all .

Stout will be at UW-La Crosse, Saturday, April 18, and at UW-Platteville, Sunday, April 19.
