UW-Stout 2, St. Scholastica 2
DULUTH, Minn. (January 23, 2009) - Joel Gaulrapp (Jr, Owatonna, Minn) scored the tying goal in the second period as seventh ranked UW-Stout tied second ranked St. Scholastica, Friday.
In the Blue Devils' (13-5-1, 5-2-1) first overtime game of the year, Gaulrapp knotted the score on assists by Matt Morin (Fr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) and Jack Wolgemuth (Sr, Anchorage, Alaska) at the 9:27 mark in the second period.
Stout took an early lead in this game when David Larson (So, Warroad, Minn) scored halfway through the first period. But St. Scholastica tied the game, then took the lead in the remainder of the opening period. AJ Tucker scored at 12:56 and Jordan Baird gave the Saints (14-3-2, 5-2-1) a lead that would carry into the second stanza.
The Saints outshot Stout 11-4 in the third period, but the Blue Devils' Matt Koenig (Sr, Lakeland, Minn) turned away all shots. St. Scholastica outshot Stout for the game, 39-33.
Penalties were few and far between. Stout had a single penalty in each of the regular periods for three penalties, while the Saints racked up three penalties in the first and one more for the rest of the game, this coming in the second. Neither team scored a power play goal.
Stout will be at No. 3 UW-Superior, Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. The Superior game is expected to be available in a live video stream.
