UW-Stout 6, UW-River Falls 1
RIVER FALLS (December 11, 2009) - UW-Stout spotted UW-River Falls a 1-0 lead, then came roaring back to take a 6-1 win over the Falcons at Hunt Arena, Friday.
The Blue Devils (5-5-3, 3-3-3 NCHA) broke a four game winless streak with one of their biggest offensive outputs of the season.
After Jason Yuel scored six minutes into the game for the Falcons (7-4-1, 3-3-1), the Blue Devils were virtually unstoppable - especially on the power play. Of Stout's six goals, five were scored on the one man advantage.
Sam Carr (Fr, Roseau, Minn) knotted the score with three minutes remaining in the first period and the teams went into the locker room tied at 1-1.
Stout scored three times in the second period, with
Mike Hartviksen (Fr, Thunder Bay, Ont) getting two goals, one at four minutes and one at 11 minutes. Sandwiched between Hartviksen's goals was a goal by
Joel Gaulrapp (Sr, Owatonna, Minn) and Stout enjoyed a 4-1 lead.
The third period was scoreless until three minutes left in the game when
Scott Motz (Sr, Lake Elmo, Minn) scored the only even strength goal of the game.
David Larson (Jr, Warroad, Minn) added the final goal with less than two minutes remaining.
Hartviksen and Motz each tallied an assist on Gaulrapp's goal and
Derek Hanson (Sr, Bemidji, Minn) knotched two assists to add to his school record career points total.
Tom Lescovich (Fr, Clifton Park, NY) recorded 23 saves, while the River Falls goalie recorded 19 saves.
The win moved the Blue Devils two points ahead of the Falcons in the NCHA standings for third place. The two teams meet again Saturday, Dec. 12 in River Falls with the game slated to begin at 7:05 p.m.
