UW-Stout 2, UW-Superior 2
SUPERIOR (January 24, 2009) - Scott Motz (Jr, Lake Elmo, Minn) scored with 27 seconds left in regulation and UW-Stout went on to notch a 2-2 tie with first place UW-Superior Saturday.
Stout opened the scoring in the game when Joel Gaulrapp (Jr, Owatonna, Minn) scored on the power play at 16:50 in the first period.
The Yellowjackets (16-2-2, 7-1-1) tied the score in the second period on a power play goal by Kevin Huck at 14:47. Superior took the lead midway through the third period when Eric Bausano scored at 10:18.
The Blue Devils (13-5-2, 5-2-2) had a couple of opportunities in the final seven minutes. Eric Scovill (So, Peoria, Ill) hit the top pipe only seconds after the Blue Devils went onto the power play at about the 13 minute mark. Stout had a flurry of shots three minutes later, but it wasn't until the Blue Devils pulled goalie Matt Koenig (Sr, Lakeland, Minn) with about 75 seconds left for the extra attacker that did the damage.
Danny Ryan, Jr (So, Niles, Ill) took a shot and Andy Sternberg (Jr, Duluth, Minn) picked up the rebound, but sent the shot wide.
With 30 seconds left, Gaulrapp dug the puck out from behind the Superior net, fed the biscuit to Derek Hanson (Jr, Bemidji, Minn) who passed to Motz for the score.
Stout is now in a tie with St. Norbert for third place in the NCHA. The tie was Stout's second overtime game of the season and the weekend. Stout had tied 2-2 with St. Scholastica the night before.
Stout will be at UW-Eau Claire, Friday, Jan. 30 and will host UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m.
