UW-Stout 3, UW-River Falls 2
RIVER FALLS (January 16, 2009) - UW-Stout came from behind twice and Andy Sternberg (Jr, Duluth, Minn) notched the game-winning goal in the third period as the Blue Devils downed UW-River Falls, 3-2, Friday at Hunt Arena.
The Falcons, which came into the game on a five game winning streak, took and earrly lead when Derek Hansberry scored with three minutes left in the first period.
But the Blue Devils (12-5-0, 5-2-0) knotted the score on a shorthanded goal by Jeff Wheeler, with an assist by Nick Klaren (Sr, North St. Paul, Minn) halfway through the second period. The Falcons (8-8-1, 2-5-0) took the lead back only a minute later on a goal by Andrew Harrison.
Stout's Matt Morin (Fr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) tied the score for the second time in the second period for the Blue Devils, getting an assist from Derek Hanson (Sr, Bemidji, Minn) on the power play goal with five minutes remaining in the period.
Hanson would play a role in the final goal, feeding Sternberg for the game-winner at 13:10 of the final period.
Matt Koenig (Sr, Lakeland, Minn) recorded 31 saves for Stout. Stephen Ritter had 21 saves for the Falcons.
Stout will host St. Mary's University, Monday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m., then will be at St. Scholastica, Friday, Jan. 23 and at UW-Superior, Saturday, Jan. 24.
