Blue Devils hang on to down Foresters

UW-Stout 4, Lake Forest 3

MENOMONIE  (December 6, 2008) - After taking an early 4-1 lead, UW-Stout allowed two Lake Forest goals in the second period, but held on to win to the tune of 4-3, Saturday afternoon, at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

Sophomore Danny Ryan (So, Niles, Ill.) got the Blue Devils on the board first with 11 minutes remaining in the first period. Lake Forest answered back very late in the same stanza when Tyler Gross scored his first goal of the season with 36 second left in the first.

Stout jumped on the Foresters to start the second period. Three unanswered goals stretched their lead to 4-1. The goals were credited to Nick Klaren (Sr, North St. Paul, Minn.), Eric Scovill (So, Peoria, Ill.), and Joel Gaulrapp (Jr, Owatonna, Minn.), who was coming off a two-goal performance last night.

The rest of the period consisted of two Lake Forest goals, which set up a 4-3 lead for the Blue Devils that they would not relinquish.

Stout keeper Matt Koenig (Sr, Lakeland, Minn.) recorded 20 saves on the afternoon, while Brandon Kohuch rejected 57 shots for the Foresters.

The win marked the Blue Devils' fourth consecutive win, all of which were conference games, and three of which were against ranked opponents.

They now take a lot of momentum into a break that will last over a month. Their next game is scheduled for Jan. 8 at St. John's.
