UW-Stout 4, St. Olaf 3
BUFFALO, Minn. (November 8, 2008) - UW-Stout played much of the game with a player in the penalty box, but the Blue Devils made the most of the situation with two short-handed goals in 4-3 win over St. Olaf College Saturday at the Buffalo Civic Center.
Robert Carr (So, Roseau, Minn) got things started for the Blue Devils (5-2-0) when he set the tone with Stout's first short-handed goal of the year with three minutes remaining in the first period.
The Oles (2-2-0) knotted the score when Roger Truesdale scored a power play goal at 13:38 of the second period, opening a flurry of goals by both teams.
Only 16 seconds later, Stout's Joel Gaulrapp (Jr,Owatonna, Minn) scored, followed by Stout's second shorthanded goal of the night, this one coming off the stick of Andy Sternberg (Jr, Duluth, Minn) at 14:56.
The Oles pulled to within one again, 3-2, when Ben Umhoefer scored with three minutes left in the period.
Scott Motz (Jr, Lake Elmo, Minn) got the eventual game winning goal five minutes into the third period to give Stout a 4-2 lead. The Oles' Umhoefer scored the final goal of the game with three ticks left on the game clock.
Stout was whistled for 11 penalties on the night, while the Oles had five. St. Olaf outshot Stout, 34-29.
Stout will open NCHA play, Friday, Nov. 14 when they host UW-Superior at 7:30 p.m. and St. Scholastica, Saturday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. Both game will be broadcast by Blue Devil Video.
