MENOMONIE  (November 15, 2008) - Eric Hostetter (So, Stillwater, Minn) picked a good time to make his only bucket of the night.

The UW-Stout (0-1) guard hit a running 3-pointer from halfcourt at the buzzer to send the game into overtime, but the eighth ranked Buena Vista (1-0) came back in the extra minutes to down the Blue Devils, 68-61, Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse in both team's season opener.

Buena Vista jumped out to an early 16-5 lead, keyed by four Beaver three-pointers. The Blue Devils slowly chipped away at the lead, cutting it down to three points, the lowest of the half, with three minutes remaining in the first half. They optimistically hit the locker rooms down by just five points.

After Buena Vista started the second half with a 5-0 run, the Blue Devils battled back with a 10-2 run of their own, pulling within two. Then with 13:21 left, Stout took their first lead of the game on an Edy Jensen (Jr, St. Paul, Minn.) jumper. Over the next 13 minutes, there were three ties and four lead changes.

With the game tied and two ticks left on the clock, the Beavers' Kyle Stribe hit a three-pointer to give his team a convincing lead.

After a Stout timeout, Hostetter took the inbound and launched the ball towards the rafters, rattling it in as time expired.

In overtime, Kevin Osborn hit a three with less than a minute remaining to give Buena Vista a four point lead. Following desperation fouling by Stout, the Beavers extended their lead to seven points by the end of the game.

Stout's leading scorer, Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (Jr, Anoka, Minn.), ended his night with 15 points when he fouled out with over eight minutes remaining in the second half. John Donald (Sr, Milwaukee) recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Buena Vista featured three double-digit scorers.

Stout will next face Bethany Lutheran at the Wartburg Tournament in Waverly, Iowa, Friday, Nov. 21.
