Superior downs Stout in NCHA opener

MENOMONIE  (November 14, 2008) - UW-Stout scored first, but UW-Superior finished the game with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 win over the Blue Devils in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) opener Friday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

Stout's Derek Hanson (Jr, Bemidji, Minn) led off the game with a power play goal at 9:48 in the first period. Nick Klaren (Sr, North St. Paul, Minn) scored the assist.

Logan Isley knotted the score for the Yellowjackets at 14:28 in the first period. Chris Wilson, who assisted Isley on the first goal, got the eventual game winning goal at 9:04 in the second period.

The Yellowjackets (6-1-0, 1-0-0 NCHA) scored again in third as Isley scored his second goal of the game, this one on a power play at 8:21.

Matt Koenig (Sr, Lakeland, Minn) recorded 34 saves for Stout (5-3-0, 0-1-0), while Chad Beiswenger had 30 for Superior.

Stout will host St. Scholastica Saturday, Nov. 15 again at 7:30 p.m. The game will be available by Live Stats and by Blue Devil Video.
