MENOMONIE (September 12, 2008) - Talk about feeling a little snake-bit. UW-Stout lost their third consecutive dual match by a 5-4 score as the Blue Devils fell to UW-Oshkosh in the conference opener.
Stout (0-3, 0-1) was swept first in the doubles competition, but couldn't get back far enough in the singles, winning four.
Sarah Smith (So, Stevens Point) was edged out at No. 5. After winning the first set 6-1, she dropped the second set to Brittany Braasch, 6-2, then was stopped in the third set, 6-3.
Allie Hinman (So, Lino Lakes, Minn), playing in her first match of the season due to injury, had little trouble at No. 1 singles, downing the Titans' (3-0) Kristina Naidicz, 6-1, 6-3. Jodie Czech (Sr, Foley, Minn), who missed last weekend's openers due to a personal commmitment needed three sets at No. 2 singles, defeating Jenna Abbott, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1.
Amanda O'Keefe (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) needed a second set tiebreaker to down Emily Bostwick at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7). Emily Jubert (Fr, Green Bay) was Stout's other winner, taking a 6-2, 6-3, win at No. 6 singles.
Stout is off until Friday, Sept. 19 when they will compete in the three-day ITA Tournament at Gustavus Adolphus.
