Cheney, Wash. – Eastern Washington's men's tennis head coach Steve Clark announced on Monday, Dec. 15 that the Eagles will be adding 19 year-old Vuk Vuckovic to  the current tennis roster in time for the upcoming spring schedule.
Vuckovic (Gimnazjia Milos Crnjanski HS), originally from Belgrade, Serbia, will be joining EWU mid-year following his impressive performance and successes at the national stage in his home country.
"Vuk will be a great addition to the team this year," noted Clark, "Not only is he a top five national player, having won numerous national titles, but he has aspiration to play on tour and is very self-motivated".
With numerous accolades such as winning national championships in the categories of 14 and under, 16 and under, and winning twice in the 18 and under division, Vuckovic will look to make an immediate impact on the team come January when the Eagles begin their spring season.
Additionally, Vuckovic was always placed within the top five in 12 & under, 14 & under, and 18 & under. In 2012, his national rank was 2nd, finalizing his season at 4th. In 2013, again Vuckovic remained near the top with a national rank of 5th, and finishing the year at 9th. In 2014, his senior national rank was 8th. Vuckovic has also earned notable wins against Strahinja Rakic and Petar Conkic, both players who have a great ATP ranking, as well as ranking well on the ITF.
"I think that Eastern Washington University has a great tennis team and there are good conditions for tennis so I can improve my career," stated Vuckovic.
Vuckovic will enter into Eastern's program with the intention of majoring in Business and Management. He also loves to play chess and a card game named "Preferance", a game which is similar to Bridge.
After a solid showing for the fall schedule, Clark is excited for the recent addition of the Serbian athlete stating, "I like that he is very forward minded in his game. I want players who are very fit and whose game styles are more all-court while feeling comfortable at the net. He is both fit and an all-courter."
Clark continued by saying, "It is often tough coming in mid-year and getting right into the mix of things – we play some tough opponents a week after classes, but I am sure Vuk will fit right in."
