Jerry Cognetta begins his fifth year as a Blue Devil assistant in 2011, but Cognetta is very well-known in these parts and the entire state of Wisconsin. Cognetta coached softball at nearby Elmwood High School for 20 years, putting together a juggernaut that won 16 conference titles, two WIAA state championships and three runner-up titles as he posted a 301-31 overall record. He produced six all-state candidates, including two that matriculated to UW-Stout, Lori Brunner and Joanna Schwebach. An elementary school teacher in the Elmwood School District for 37 years, Cognetta and his wife, Julie, live in Elmwood and have three adult children.
