Abigail Fouts joined the Blue Devils in August 2021 as an assistant cross country and track and field coach. She is also the adviser to the Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) and is the UW-Stout MentorLink Coordinator.
UW-STOUT (2021-Present)
2023-24: The cross country season saw McKayla Felton finish fourth in the region and 23
rd at the national championships to earn All-American honors. Ian Williams, Calvin Fiala, and Matt Thomas raced to all-region honors. The Blue Devil men placed 21
st at the NCAA National Championships which tied for the highest national meet team finish in school history. The women’s team finished fourth in the WIAC and fifth at the North Regional. McKayla Felton continued am impresive year by winning the 3000-meters at the indoor WIAC championship with a school record performance. In the outdoor season, Felton set a school record in the 3000 Steeplechase. Arely Jamie Luevano won the WIAC Championships in the 10,000-Meters.Olivia Donohue (5,000-Meters) and McKalya Felton (3000M Steeplechase) earned All-WIAC honors. Matt Thomas (10,000-meters) and Felton (3000 Steeplechase, 5,000-meters) earned All-region honors.
2022-23: Spencer Schultz qualified for the national meet for the fourth straight season, finishing 37th to earn All-American honors. Schultz and Matthew Ryan were named First-Team All-WIAC and helped lead the Blue Devil men to third in the WIAC and a fourth place finish in the North Regionals. Matthew Ryan received the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete award. The Blue Devil women finished fourth in the conference and seventh at the North Regional. Arely Jamie Luevano was named Second-Team All-WIAC. Indoor Track: The members of the Blue Devil Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team Lance Pfrimmer, Owen Jelinek, Grant Magnuson and Spencer Schultz. Primmer received all-region honors in the 800 and advanced to the indoor national championships. Pfrimmer also received all-region honors in the outdoor 800-meters.
2021-22: Spencer Schultz made his third trip to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship and Emily Cunningham made her first. Schultz advanced to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the 10K. Grant Magnuson set a school record in the outdoor 800m and advanced to the national meet.
BEFORE UW-STOUT
University of St. Thomas (2019-2021) Fouts coached the long distance women to multiple personal records in her tenure and contributed to four MIAC team titles. Fouts trained Sara Miller to an all-time best 36:46 in the 10,000 meters and runner-up finish at the MIAC Outdoor Conference and qualified to the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships to place 10
th. In 2020, she coached Martha Hubbell to a NCAA Indoor Track qualifying before the meet was canceled due to COVID. During her tenure at St. Thomas, Fouts trained more athletes to score at the MIAC Track Conference meets than at any other time in the teams history. She also wrote the cross training program for individuals who were experiencing and returning from short-term or long-term injury.
UW-River Falls (2018-19) Fouts coached Linsey Tolkkinen to three NCAA Championship appearances; two in the outdoor 10,000 (2018, 2019) and one in cross country (2018). Fouts also coached the 2019 WIAC Steeplechase champion, Nikki Jurik, to her title and season best.
PLAYING CAREER
UW-River Falls (2014-18) Fouts competed in cross-country and the long distance track events. She holds the second fastest 6,000 time in school history (21:13) and was the first female in four years to qualify to the NCAA D-III Cross-Country Championships. Fouts was a part of the 2017 UWRF Team of the Year that placed 3rd in the WIAC, 6th in the Midwest Region, and made the nationals rankings for the first time in program history to become the UWRF 2017-18 Team of the Year. On the track, Fouts graduated with five races on the UWRF All-Time Best lists (1500m, 3K, indoor and outdoor 5K, and 10K) with three all-conference honors in the indoor and outdoor 5K and is the 2017 outdoor WIAC 10K champion. She was named the 2017 UWRF Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.
PERSONAL
A Eagan, Minn. native, Fouts earned her bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in 2017 from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and her masters degree in sport and exercise science from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in 2019.
