Zachary Vit begins his second year as a UW-Stout hockey assistant coach with the 2021-22 season.
Vit came to the Blue Devils after three years as the head coach of the Potomac Patriots, a United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) junior hockey program located in Woodbridge, Va.
Vit has spent the past several seasons re-building the juniors program in Potomac. When Vit came to the team, the program had just put together a six-win season in 2016-17. Vit's final season with the Patriots, 2019-20, saw the team post 20 wins. In addition worked with the local youth coaches, especially working and administration and program development.
With a limited staff, Vit was responsible for all aspects of hockey operations, including training camp, practice planning, game strategy, video analysis, equipment and apparel orders, team travel and player advancement.
Vit was a graduate assistant hockey coach at Stevenson University in Owing Mills, Md., for two seasons. Along with Stevenson head coach Dominick Dawes, Vit helped to establish the program during the Mustangs' inaugural season in 2015-16. Vit obtained his masters from Stevenson in business and technology management.
A graduate of SUNY-Geneseo, Vit was a team captain when Geneseo reached the NCAA Division III Frozen Four for the first team, He was selected the 2013-14 SUNYAC conference player of the year and earned first team All-America status. Vit three-times earned all-conference honors and was the SUNYAC rookie of the year during the 2010-11 season. Vit earned his bachelor's in communications from Geneseo.
Vit played one season professionally in France with the Neuilly sur Marne Bisons.
