The 2012 season marks Shane Konop’s first year as a Blue Devil assistant coach and Konop will serve in a dual role as the defensive line coach and as the team’s strength and conditioning coach.

Konop comes to the Blue Devils after sixth seasons as an assistant football coach at UW-Stevens Point, his alma mater, where he worked with the linebackers and was the strength and conditioning coach. Konop was a standout defensive tackle for the Pointers from 1993-1997, earning first team all-conference honors in 1996 and 1997. Konop also served as a team captain. Following his days as a Pointer, he went on to play professionally in an arena football league from 1998-2000.

The Stevens Point native was also a high school state champion in the shot put and wrestling at Stevens Point Pacelli High School. As an assistant coach, Konop helped lead the Pacelli football squad to a 2005 WIAA Division 7 state championship.
