Mike Bird has worn several hats for UW-Stout since returning to Menomonie in the mid-1990s. Bird became the program director for the Health, Wellness & Fitness major in 2011. Bird was an assistant football coach for 17 seasons, an assistant softball coach for 12 seasons and was the athletic department's equipment manager as well as an instructor in the physical education department.
In 2012, Bird began his 17th year as a Blue Devil football assistant. Bird is in eighth year as the special teams coordinator and will coach the offensive line for the fourth consecutive year, a spot he coached for four years early in his career at Stout. Bird has also worked with the running backs, linebackers and defensive line.
Bird, a former Menomonie High School standout, was recruited by then Southwest State assistant and former Blue Devil head coach Ed Meierkort, and went on to start four years for the Golden Mustangs, earning all-conference honors for the top 10 ranked team that was also one of the top offensive producing machines in the NAIA.
Bird coached two years of football at Southwest State, one year with the offensive line and another with the running backs.
Bird was an assistant softball coach for the Blue Devils for 12 years (1999-2011).
Bird, and his wife, Jodi, reside in Menomonie, with their daughter, Mackenzie, and son, Tucker.
