Tyler Welch

Tyler Welch begins his second year with the Blue Devil baseball program for the 2014 season.

Welch came to the Blue Devils from Century College in St. Paul, Minn., where he was the pitching coach from 2010-12. During his two seasons at Century, the team went 30-14 and were ranked as high as eighth nationally in 2011 and 39-17 in 2012 and a national ranking of fourth. During his time at Century, Welch developed three pitchers - Tm Mettert, Jeff Heath and Nick Fure - that earned national pitcher of the week honors. Fure became an all-region selection and earned third team All-America honors. One of his pitchers also earned a contract to pitch in the Northwoods League, one of the top summer college baseball leagues in the country.

A native of Bettendorf, Iowa, Welch played both at Carthage College in Kenosha and at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn.

Welch has head coaching experience with the Eastridge American Legion team in Woodbury, Minn., for two summers and was the head summer baseball coach with the Woodbury Athletic Association for three summers, working with 15-year-olds, advancing as far as a fourth place finish at the state tournament.

Welch has been an assistant baseball coach with the Minnesota Gophers Junior Fall League (2007), St. Paul Saints Winter Camp instructor (2009), the Midwest Bseball Academy as a pitching instructor (winter 2008-10), as a trainer with the Next Level Baseball program (winter 2010), has taught private and group lessons and was the New Ulm, Minn., Park and Rec baseball and softball coordinator (2007, 2008).

In addition to his duties with the baseball program, Welch is also an assistant sports information director.
