THE 2021-22 BLUE DEVILS
- Stout will return much of it's roster after only losing one senior last season. This young team is highlighted by Amanda Giesen, Raegan Sorensen and Anna Mutch. Sorensen was awarded WIAC Newcomer of the Year (a title held by Anna Mutch from last season) and All-WIAC honorable mention with Giesen and Mutch. Sorensen came off the bench in every game last year and matched Amanda Giesen for a team-best 12.5 points per game. The pair ranked eighth in the WIAC. Anna Mutch ranked 12th in the conference with 11.1 points. Giesen is shooting at a .498 percentage (104-209), second in the conference. Giesen has scored in double digits in 20 of 23 games this season.
- Sorensen scored 19 points and 25 points against Eau Claire last year.
- Mutch led the team in assists, tallying 68 total for a average of 3.0 (second in the WIAC). Lauren Arenz dished off 55 assists for a 2.4 per game average, 10th in the league and has 14 blocked shots, seventh in the conference.
- Other notable returners are Lauren Arenz, who led the team in 3-point shots, draining 20. Sam Schaeffer has made 18 long-range bombs. Schaeffer is averaging 6.2 points and 2.3 assists, which places her for 11th in the WIAC in assists. Allison Letcher also showed her three-point skills late in the season, going 9 for 19 in the last for games this season.
CONFERENCE STANDINGS:
- The Blue Devils were voted to finish XXXX in the WIAC 2022-23 preseason poll conducted by conference coaches and sports information directors. UW-XXX was picked first, UW-XXX second, UW-XXX third, UW-XXX fourth, UW-XXX fifth, UW-XXXX seventh and UW-XXX eighth. | 2022-23 WIAC Preseason Poll
STOUT LAST TIME OUT:
- UW-Stout fought hard, but UW-Eau Claire's hot-shooting kept them in the lead for most of the game before the Blugolds won, 87-68, in the WIAC Semifinals Feb. 23 at Johnson Fieldhouse. Stout (13-11) started the first quarter jumping out to a 12-8 lead, but this was their biggest lead of the night, as Eau Claire (20-7) quickly took the lead and held it for the rest of game. Eau Claire finished out the first half with near-lights out shooting, going 5 for 11 from deep. This shooting pulled Eau Claire's lead to 13 entering the half (40-27). Stout came out of the break looking to make a run, but Eau Claire's shots continued to find the bottom of the net. Stout worked hard to get back into the game, but the closest the Blue Devils got was 13 points. | Game Story and Statistics

THE COACHES:
UW-STOUT:
- Hannah Iverson (66-46) is in her fifth year in 2022-23 as the head coach of the Blue Devils. (started the 2023-24 season at 66-46)
- Prior to becoming the Blue Devils' head coach, Iverson was the director of player development for women's basketball at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay, a position she began in October, 2016. As well as working directly with the team, Iverson managed the program's operating budget, coordinated team travel, co-directed summer camps and clinics and handled all aspects of team film. She assisted in the set-up of on-campus recruiting and coordinating official and unofficial visits for potential recruits. Iverson held a similar position - director of basketball operations - at the University of Illinois from 2014-16.
- Iverson spent two years at NAIA member Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, as an assistant women's basketball coach for the 2012-14 school years. Iverson was in charge of guard development in a season where she helped the Saints to the 2014 Association of Independent Institutions tournament championship, earning Ashford a berth in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championship tournament, the first conference title and appearance in the NAIA D-II tournament in Saints history.
- A member of the UW-Green Bay women's basketball team from 2008-12, playing as Hannah Quilling, Iverson finished her career in the top 10 for games played as the Phoenix posted a 122-13 record over her four years. The team was 68-4 in Horizon League play and advanced to the NCAA Division I tournament four times, including one trip to the Sweet 16. She led the Horizon League in assist-to-turnover ratio in 2011-12, was sixth in steals per game and ninth in assists per game. She was also named to the Horizon League Honor Roll, earned the UW-Green Bay Chancellor's Leadership Medallion, was a two-time recipient of the UW-Green Bay University Leadership Award and the Patricia Hinckley Scholarship, and won the JoAnne Jennings Award in 2012.
- Iverson has gotten to 30 career wins faster than any other Blue Devil basketball coach, men or women. Iverson reached her 30th win in 42 games. Mark Thomas needed to turn around a women's basketball program that had won only two games the previous two seasons before he arrived. Thomas needed 75 games to reach 30 wins, but once he did, he kept building and became the winningest basketball coach in Blue Devil history, both men and women. On the men's side, Ray Johnson needed 59 games to reach 30 wins. Dewey Mintz needed 67 games to reach 30, John Muraski needed 63 and Eddie Andrist needed 59 games.
