MENOMONIE — UW-Stout played Saint Mary's University of Minnesota to a 1-1 tie Monday at Nelson Field. The Blue Devils held a 16-11 advantage in shots and put nine shots on goal, while Saint Mary's goalkeeper Bode Jacobsen made eight saves.

Patrick Zich led the Blue Devils with one goal on four shots, including three on goal. Ryker Rivard added four shots, with three on frame. Trey White and Jack Poole each recorded an assist, while Poole also registered one shot on goal.

The Blue Devils created the first sustained pressure of the match, earning two early corner kicks while Asher Vogel and Zich each put a shot on goal that was saved by Jacobsen. Zich broke through in the 11th minute, scoring off assists from Poole and White to give UW-Stout a 1-0 lead.

Saint Mary's responded with pressure of its own, as Puglisi made two saves on shots by Thomas Laaksonen. Jacobsen made saves on shots by Logan Bergien and Rivard as UW-Stout carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Saint Mary's created an early opportunity in the second half, but Puglisi saved Francesco Cardone's shot. Stout answered with on-target efforts from Rivard and Zich, both of which were stopped by Jacobsen. The Cardinals continued to pressure with a pair of shots and a corner kick before Caleb Gilbert converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute to tie the match at 1-1.

The Blue Devils pushed back following the equalizer, recording six shots and a corner kick. Jacobsen made saves on attempts by Poole and Rivard as Stout looked for the go-ahead goal, But neither team found the net again as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

With the tie, the Blue Devils move to 3-3-2 on the season. UW-Stout will travel to New Ulm, Minn., to face Martin Luther College Friday, Oct. 2, at 3 p.m.
