Menomonie, Wis. — UW-Stout fell to UW-La Crosse, 21-5, in a WIAC matchup Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles controlled the game early, scoring four of the first five goals and taking a 5-1 lead after the opening quarter. UW-Stout got on the board with a goal from Brinley Tonn (13), but UW-La Crosse continued to build momentum.
After Maddy Nuttall (3) opened the second-quarter scoring for the Blue Devils to make it 5-2, the Eagles responded with an eight-goal run to close the half and take a 13-2 lead into the break.
UW-La Crosse added five more goals in the third quarter to extend its advantage, but the Blue Devils continued to battle and found success late. Stout scored three times in the fourth, with Luci Fitzgerald (6), Ava Loveland (9), and Mai Nou Vang (40) each finding the back of the net.
Tonn finished with a goal and an assist to lead Stout with two points, while Emilia Bullock recorded nine saves in goal.
UW-Stout will return to action Wednesday, traveling to UW-Stevens Point for a 7 p.m. contest.
