Stout Battles but Can’t Overcome Turnovers at Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. — UW–Stout couldn't fully capitalize on a strong rebounding start and fell 63–51 to UW–Stevens Point on Wednesday night at Quandt Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils controlled the glass early, outrebounding the Pointers 23–14 in the first half, but turnovers proved costly. UWSP forced 12 Stout miscues in the opening 20 minutes and converted them into 13 points, helping the home team build a 30–21 halftime lead. By contrast, Stevens Point committed just four turnovers all game, limiting Stout's ability to generate easy offense in transition.

Stevens Point scored the first seven points of the game and never relinquished the lead, consistently taking advantage of live-ball turnovers and trips to the free-throw line. Despite the early hole, Stout stayed competitive through effort plays on the glass and interior scoring, but struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm against the Pointers' pressure.

The Blue Devils showed renewed energy midway through the second half and mounted a run that briefly put Stevens Point on its heels. Mason Stoik knocked down a pair of timely three-pointers from the wing to spark the push, and moments later Nolan Stauffacher jumped a passing lane and finished at the rim in transition to cut the deficit and shift momentum toward the Stout bench. Aidan Shore followed with a dunk in traffic, and AJ Uttech attacked the paint for a pair of finishes and free throws as Stout trimmed the lead to single digits late.

UWSP answered each surge at the line, however, and closed the game by converting late free throws before punctuating the night with a fast-break dunk in the final seconds.

Uttech led the Blue Devils with 14 points, while Shore added nine points and eight rebounds. Collin Vick contributed eight points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, highlighting Stout's advantage on the boards despite the final score.
